Succesful Showcase "Performing Arts Made in Germany“
The first showcase from Germany on the international Edinburgh Festival Fringe with extraordinary circus, dance and theater pieces "Made in Germany" was a huge success. The showcase was part of the Kreativ-Transfer program, a project of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland (German Dance Association).
The Showcase "Performing Arts Made in Germany”, as the first joint presence from Germany, showed four companies in four of the most renowned venues in August: Sandra Hanschitz & Joel Beierer with "IIIII - about the art of letting go“ at Underbelly, Miller de Nobili with "PACK“ at Assembly@Dance Base, the trio David Eisele, Kolja Huneck & Michael Zandl with "Sawdust Symphony“ at Zoo Southside and Anne Welenc with "QUEENS“ at Summerhall. Two weeks long the selected companies performed on 12 days - a high performance of the involved artists and technicians.
The showcases enjoyed large popularity - for both the professional visitors, the audience as well as for the media representatives.
Some reviews: Broadway World (about IIIII - about the art of letting go) - "...thrilling and masterful... " / Theatre Weekly (about PACK) - "Strong and powerful yet tender and sensitive..." / Get The Chance Wales (about Queens) - "…thought provoking…" / The List (about Sawdust Symphony) - "...beautiful, tenderly crafted, poetic and absurd...".
As an accompaniment there was a panel discussion in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Glasgow happening on the subject of "Trends in the German and Scottish performing arts scene" and a pitching format in cooperation with Culture | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg. The events offered another possibility for the German and Luxemburgish showcases to present themselves and to network.
"Performing Arts Made in Germany“ supported the artists before, during and after the festival and offered them a platform to present their work in the vivid, international environment of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as well as establishing lasting contacts for their further work and international touring.
The Dachverband Tanz Deutschland (German Dance Association) strives for a continuation of the successful pilot project „Performing Arts Made in Germany“ and therefore for a joint presence of artists and companies from Germany at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and other international major events of the performing arts, at which "Performing Arts Made in Germany" shouldn't be missed.
